Stella Polaris can offer you an experience never to be forgotten. The trip from Bodø to Saltstraumen takes approx 40 minutes driving across the Salten fjord and through the smaller Sundstraumen where the magnificent sea eagles live. In May the chicks hatch out and if you are lucky you will catch a glimpse of these small grey feathered eaglets. On arriving at Saltstraumen you can sit in the middle of the swirling waters in the most powerful maelstrom in the world, safe inside the RIB you can feel the enormous forces while the sea races past and forms whirlpools which can be up to 5 metres wide and deep ! This is one of the most popular excursions, 5000 persons visited the maelstrom with us in 2006 , the eldest was 92 years old! The trip takes approx. 2 hours. If you wish to have a stop for refreshments this can be arranged nearby the maelstrom. |
